The Oldest Book I Own

Here's a little meme I found out about over on Abnormal Interests. The oldest book I own, to my knowledge, is a copy of Tom Swift and his Planet Stone by Victor Appleton from 1935. The link leads to a cover, but it doesn't match the one I have. Mine's plain brown. The book's not in the greatest condition, but it's still readable, if you're careful. After that, it's probably one of my Heinlein paperbacks from the late 50s. Man, you gotta love that funky cover art.

  • Well, owing to my father's propensity for pawning off his old posessions on me, I'd say my oldest book is an 1880's Twain Compilation, or a Virgina history textbook from the same period.

    I have several old Jules Verne editions, probably 1930s-1940s. I also have a hardback Tom Swift from the 1930s . . . brown or blue cover, I think. If yours is hardback, Coralius, it's likely a library edition designed for wear and tear, rather than the pulp paperback pictured in the link. Our old college had a bunch of Heinlein editions like that.
